In 2009, Kazakhstan to export nearly 6 mln tons of grains
APK-Inform Information Agency: In 2009, Kazakhstan plans to supply nearly 6 mln tons of grains on the world market, first of all to the countries of the Central Asia and the Transcaucasia, and then to Afghanistan, China and Iran, declared Akylbek Kurishbaev, the Minister of Agriculture of the republic.
At the end of the previous year, the authorities of Kazakhstan forecasted own grain export plans at the level of 5.5-6 mln tons.
Kazakhstan is one of the large-scale grain producers in the world, last year the country took the sixth place at the volumes of grain supplies on the world market, and the first place – at the export volumes of flour. At the same time, in the spring of 2008, Kazakhstan imposed temporary bans for grain exports in the terms of the growth of the domestic prices for bakery products and flour. The ban was cancelled on September 1, 2008.
A.Kurishbaev forecasted the harvest at the level of the previous year (15.6 mln tons in clean weight) in the case of providing the spring sowing campaign in the fixed terms and the sufficient volumes of precipitations in the summer period. The export potential of Kazakh grains in 2008/09 marketing year, including flour volumes, totals nearly 6 mln tons.
Besides, Kazakhstan works out the issues of widening of grain sales towards China, which will increase own demand due to the growth of the population, according to A.Kurishbaev.
