Kazakh President to address participants of informal meeting of OSCE Foreign MinistersTwo-day informal meeting of the OSCE Foreign Ministers will be opened in Almaty today. Its participants will address the key issues of security inside the OSCE area of responsibility within the development of so-called Corfu process including the situation in Afghanistan.

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev is expected to address the participants of the meeting in the second day of the summit.

OSCE Secretary-in-office, Kazakh Secretary of State – Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev will hold a number of bilateral meetings with his foreign colleagues, take part in signing of an agreement between Kazakhstan and a range of countries on exemption of holders of diplomatic passports from visa requirements and other activities. 

A meeting of K.Saudabayev with OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, a meeting of the OSCE Troika, signing of the Agreement on cooperation between the OSCE and CARICC, a meeting with President of the OSCE PA Petros Efthimiou and other are scheduled within the summit as well.

K.Saudabayev, D.Leadington discussed situation in Kyrgyzstan

British Minister for European Affairs David Leadington has met today with OSCE Chairman-in-office, Secretary of State – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev and expressed his hope that Kazakhstan would continue further successful work in the OSCE.

D. Leadington noted that the meeting with K. Saudabayev had been successful. They discussed the issues regarding coordinating and regional relations. ‘We discussed the situation in Kyrgyzstan. I was interested in Kanat Suadabayev’s opinion as the OSCE Chairman-in-office and as Kazakhstani regarding the unrest in neighboring country. We also discussed the situation in Afghanistan. Besides, we considered the issues regarding the cooperation within the OSCE and we hoped the Government of Kazakhstan would continue its successful work in the OSCE’, D. Leadington said.

OSCE Secretariat and CARICC sign letters of intent on coop in Almaty

Within the framework of consultations on the cooperation issues between OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut and Director of the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre (CARICC) Beksultan Sarsekov have held an exchange of intent letters directed to strengthening interaction between the OSCE Secretariat and CARICC in the struggle against illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors.

The OSCE Secretariat and CARICC will render mutual assistance in implementation of the activity connected with the struggle against transnational organized crime within the framework of competence of the parties and agreements reached and hold meetings and consultations of the parties.

“The current chairmanship in the OSCE allowed the CARICC to sign only one document directed to strengthening cooperation in the OSCE in the plan of rendering mutual assistance on many problems connected with transnational drug crime. It is specialists’ training, holding trainings and mutual exchange of information”, B.Sarsekov said.

Austria ready to widen and strengthen bilateral relations with Kazakhstan

Within the framework of the informal meeting of the OSCE foreign ministers in Almaty OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Kazakh Secretary of State-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kanat Saudabayev has held a meeting with Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria Michael Spindelegger today.

“I congratulated K.Saudabayev on success which the OSCE reached under his leadership within this year. His work as the Chairman-in-Office is very important. K.Saudabayev informed me of his assessment of the situation in Kyrgyzstan because it is one of the major challenges the OSCE faces today”, Michael Spindelegger noted.

“We discussed the prospects of holding the OSCE Summit this year. Austria supports Kazakhstan’s proposal to carry out this Summit. We have excellent relations with Kazakhstan, Austria is ready to expand and strengthen bilateral relations, especially in the economic sphere. We hope that we will have more specific projects”, the Austrian Minister said.
