Kazakhstan to join OECD Supervising Committee for Central AsiaKazakhstan will become a full-fledged member of the OECD Supervising Committee for Central Asia.

Such agreement was reached  at  the meeting of RK Vice Prime Minister Yerbol Orynbaev with  Richard A. Boucher, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD in Paris within the ministerial conference under the OECD aegis on Outside the Financial Crisis: Policy on Support and Development of Competitiveness in Central Asia, Kazinform refers to the press service of the Kazakh Embassy in France.

As earlier reported, at the meeting Y. Orynbayev drew the participants’ attention to the priorities and major results of Kazakhstan’s economic development, its policy and measures on creation of favorable climate for foreign investors as well as the key economic sectors of Kazakhstan which can be developed under the OECD support.  

At the meeting with Richard A. Boucher the parties entered into an agreement on further development of the OECD-Kazakhstan cooperation. Kazakhstan’s accession to the OECD, establishment of fruitful interaction within the Organization’s Investments Committee and the Committee on Trade and Agriculture were discussed as well.

Vice PM Y. Orynbayev took part in OECD conference in Paris

On June 16-18, 2010 a delegation of Kazakhstan headed by Vice Prime Minister Yerbol Orynbayev took part in a ministerial conference in Paris held under the aegis of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and had several meetings with the heads of the French Government and largest French companies.

At the meeting with Minister under the Prime Minister in charge of the Implementation of the Recovery of Plan France Patrick Devedjian the parties exchanged views on experience and results of implementation of both countries anti-crisis measures. Y. Orynbayev informed the French politician of Kazakhstan’s current economic situation, the priorities and prospects of development.

Mr. Devedjian highly appraised the economic changes in Kazakhstan and its success in overcoming the crisis and preparation for stable post-crisis development.

A wide range of issues in education were discussed at the meeting with Minister of National Education, Spokesman of the French Government Luc Chatel. The meeting was also attended by Kazakh Ambassador to this country Nurlan Danenov. Y. Orynbayev told about the process of educational reforms conducted in Kazakhstan, realization of such strategically important projects as establishment of the Presidential University, implementation of leading world experience and qualitative improvement of national education. Luc Chatel backed the proposition on development of joint projects in higher educational sphere and in science including establishment of a joint Kazakh-French technical educational institution. The parties welcomed the idea of holding the First Kazakh-French Forum of University Rectors on June 21-24, 2010 under the support of the Agency for promotion of French higher education abroad.

Participation of the Kazakh delegation in a conference of Central Asian ministers on Outside the Financial Crisis: Policy on Support and Development of Competitiveness in Central Asia has marked a brand new level of Kazakhstan-OECD interaction.

Taking a floor, Y. Orynbayev drew the participants’ attention to the priorities and major results of Kazakhstan’s economic development, its policy and measures on creation of favorable climate for foreign investors as well as the key economic sectors of Kazakhstan which can be developed under the OECD support.  

At the meeting with Richard A. Boucher, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD, the parties entered into an agreement on further realization of the abovementioned initiative which is of great importance for Kazakhstan. The parties also agreed on Kazakhstan’s membership in the Supervising Committee of the OECD in Central Asia. The French side also expressed interest in Kazakhstan’s accession to the OECD and establishment of fruitful cooperation within the Investments Committee, the Committee for Trade and Agriculture.

The Kazakh delegation also had a meeting at the Headquarters of MEDEF Association (Movement of the French Enterprises) which unites millions of French businessmen. The businessmen expressed interest in the current economic processes in Kazakhstan and the measures on further improvement of the country’s investment climate. The Chief of the MEDEF gave a high estimation to stable economic development of Kazakhstan and expressed readiness to implement the agreements on investing in Kazakhstan. The representatives of French business expressed hope that the forthcoming IX session of the Kazakhstan-France Intergovernmental Commission would give new impulse and allow finding new ways of mutually beneficial cooperation.

As is known, the OECD was founded in 1948 for coordination of the projects on economic reconstruction of Europe. This is the international economic organization of the developed countries recognizing the principles of representative democracy and free market economy.
