The Nazarbayev University jointly with Berkeley Laboratory (USA) plan to implement a project in the sphere of plasma physics, director of the Accelerator and Fusion Research Division Stephen Gourlay said in his interview for PM.kz site.
“Within the framework of our cooperation with the Nazarbayev University we agreed to go forwards with a few of projects to get started, so we now go down to plasma physics and organic photovoltaics. These projects are very important for us because we have to PIs here at NU who are interested in that work and we have two people at Berkeley who are very active in that area,” Stephen Gourlay said.
He also noted that the project in plasma physics would require building additional production capacities and establishing an atom smasher on the basis of the University.
According to S.Gourlay, the projects will be aimed at development of alternative energy and green energy.
“The projects in the organic photovoltaics are breakthrough projects as long as they touch open the issues of energy and its deficit on one side which is important for many countries and on the other side they also aim at development of the green energy,” he added.
