Issues of gender balance on agenda of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in OSCE – Global Summit of Women


The 20th jubilee Global Summit of Women has started its work in Beijing today. More than one thousand women from 80 countries take part in the event.

Greeting the participants Summit President Irene Natividad called the Beijing Summit a chance for all foreign delegates to learn more about the tendencies of Chinese and Asian markets. “The summit provides an invaluable opportunity to widen contacts among the representatives of business and public circles from all over the world”, she said.

Making a speech Kazakh Minister of Labor and Social Protection Gulshara Abdykalikova noted that Kazakhstan considered the top level forum as an effective dialogue platform for opinion exchange.

“The issues of gender equality are treated as one of the major ones in the policy of our state. Since the first days of independence Head of the State Nursultan Nazarbayev has rendered all necessary support to implementation of women’s initiatives, programs and projects aimed at improving the status of women, children and family”, the Minister said.

She also emphasized that Kazakhstan established National Commission for Women Affairs, Family and Demographic Policy and adopted the Strategy of Gender Equality for 2006-2016. “The issues of gender balance are included into the agenda of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the OSCE”, G. Abdykalikova stressed.

The official opening ceremony of the Global Summit will be held in the second half of the day.
