Kazakhstan's OSCE chairmanship contributes to development of tolerance and inter-faith harmony - K. M. BondevikHuman Rights Commissioner of Kazakhstan Askar Shakirov met today with President of Norway Center for Peace and Human Rights, ex-Prime Minister of this country Kjell Magne Bondevik who is on a visit to our country at present.

The visit aims at discussion of a draft report on human rights situation in Kazakhstan developed by the Norway Center for Peace and Human Rights together with the Norwegian Helsinki Committee. The document will be officially presented at a roundtable for NGOs within the OSCE Tolerance and Non-Discrimination Conference scheduled for June 2010 in Astana.

The Kazakh Ombudsman familiarized K. Bondevik with the priority directions of Kazakhstan’s activity connected with protection and encouragement of human rights, the measures launched by the state in this direction, in particular, on freedom of faith.

“Chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the OSCE makes a significant contribution to development of tolerance and inter-faith harmony”, the Norwegian guest said.

The Center for Peace and Human Rights is the non-governmental organization promoting peace, human rights and inter-faith harmony across the world.

Kazakh Ombudsman met with Kjell Magne Bondevik

Kazakh Ombudsman Askar Shakirov has held a meeting with President of the Center for Peace and Human Rights, former Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik today. 

The purpose of the visit of the Norwegian politician is to discuss a draft report on human rights in Kazakhstan prepared together with the Norwegian Helsinki Committee that is planned to be officially presented within the OSCE High-Level Conference on Tolerance and Non-Discrimination in Astana in June this year.   

The Ombudsman briefed K.Bondevik on the priorities of the state activity connected with protection and promotion of human rights and measures taken by the Government in this direction, in particular, in the field of freedom of conscience.

The Norwegian guest highly appraised the activity of the state and noted that the Kazakhstan’s OSCE chairmanship made great contribution to development of tolerance and interconfessional concord.
