Kazakhstan: wheat prices lowered by nearly 4%

In the first quarter of 2010, prices for sold products of the agricultural industry in Kazakhstan decreased by 0.6%, declared the Agency of statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In March 2010, products of plant growing industry, sold by agricultural organizations, lowered own prices by 3.3% compared to December 2009 indices.

During three months, barley prices decreased by 9.2%, oats – by 7.6%, wheat – by 3.8%, maize – by 2.5%, rye – by 2%, buckwheat – by 1.6%, rice – by 0.6%.

Oats prices also decreased by 9.2%, sunflower seed prices – by 0.8%.

As of April 1, 2010, wheat stocks in Kazakhstan totaled 11.5 mln tonnes

During January-March period of 2010, the gross output of products and services of the agricultural industry in Kazakhstan totaled 143.5 bln tenge (980.1 mln USD), up 2.4%, including plant growing products – 3.8 bln tenge (25.95 mln USD), declared the Agency of statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to the Agency, as of April 1, 2010, the carry-over stocks of the main grains in Kazakhstan totaled 12.97 mln tonnes, an increase of 56.3% compared to January-March of 2009.

Wheat stocks totaled 11.51 mln tonnes (up 60.8%), barley – 1.13 mln tonnes (up 17.7%), rice – 113 thsd tonnes, oats – 85.2 thsd tonnes, maize – 22.4 thsd tonnes, rye – 30.4 thsd tonnes.

As of April 1, 2010, the carry-over stocks of the main oilseeds in Kazakhstan totaled 215.1 thsd tonnes, including 133.3 thsd tonnes of sunflower and 37 thsd tonnes of rapeseed.

GDP growth predicted at level of 6-7% in January-March this year: Agency on Statistics

Chairman of the Kazakh Statistics Agency Alikhan Smailov predicts the GDP growth up to 6-7% in January-March this year.

“The GDP is likely to be at the level of 6-7%”, A.Smailov said. The forecast is based on the indexes of the Short-Term Economic Indicator of January – March, 2010 compared to the corresponding period of the last year that was up to 108.3%.

A.Smailov noted that the exact calculation of the GDP will be made in May this year.
