Kazakhstan plays key role in provision of security and stability in region: NATO Supreme Allied Commander

“Kazakhstan play the key role in provision of security and stability in the region, in this regard cooperation with your country is of special importance for NATO”, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Admiral James Stavridis said at the meeting with Kazakh Ambassador to Belgium, Luxemburg, European Union and NATO Yerik Utembayev that was held in the headquarters of Allied Command Operations of NATO in Mons (Belgium).
The sides exchange opinions on the issues of bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and NATO. In particular, the issues of adoption of the second cycle of the Individual Partnership Action Plan and plans on establishment of a training center “Partnership for Peace” of the Kazakh Defense Ministry were discussed. Directions of interaction of NATO and Kazakhstan on other programs were negotiated as well.
Besides, the aspects of the operation in Afghanistan held by the NATO International Security Assistance Forces were discussed as well. The Supreme Commander noted that the situation in the Islam Republic of Afghanistan is improving slowly. Preparation of the national security forces of Afghanistan, army and police, their equipment and training are the priority of the NATO Forces today. In this regard J.Stavridis expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan for provision of access to the country’s airspace of the aviation of the Alliance member states and opportunity to use the railway transit through the territory of Kazakhstan for provision of the Alliance’s forces in Afghanistan.
The Supreme Commander congratulated Kazakhstan on the successful OSCE chairmanship, stressed the importance of key directions of country’s activity in the Organization and expressed hope that the efforts of the state in settlement of protracted conflicts would give positive results.
