Kazakhstan sent 6, 000 tons of rice to Afghanistan


In conformity with the Government’s decision on providing humanitarian aid to Afghanistan Kazakhstan has sent 6, 000 tons of rice to near-border city of this country Hairaton.

During the period from March 27 to March Afghanistan received 65 freight cars of rice.

On March 27 there was held an official ceremony of handing over the first car with humanitarian aid which was attended by officials of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the representatives of the Kazakh Ministry of Emergencies and Kazakhstani diplomats working in this country. The event was widely covered in Afghan mass media, radio and TV.

As is known, earlier Kazakhstan sent humanitarian aid to Afghanistan which included 2, 000 tons of wheat, 1, 300 tons of dried milk as well  financial funds to the amount of USD 3 mln for construction and repair of roads, hospitals and schools. Besides, in November 2009 the Governments of Kazakhstan and Afghanistan signed an agreement on cooperation in education in accordance with which Kazakhstan allotted USD 50 mln for teaching 1, 000 Afghan students in Kazakhstani universities.
