13th Eurasia International Film Festival: Nicolas Cage Wears Kazakhstan Traditional Outfit
The 53-year-old actor attended the 13th Eurasia International Film Festival in Astana, Kazakhstan, where he posed in traditional garb next to the country’s first lady, Sara Nazarbayeva, over the weekend — and the resulting photos immediately went viral.
Clad in a traditional Kazakh robe and a pair of sneakers, Cage looked absolutely miserable standing next to Nazarbayeva, giving the internet plenty to work with.
The “Face/Off” star didn’t mope through his entire visit, though. He brightened up considerably while attending the children’s film competition Five Continents. While there he met with disabled children and planted trees next to the Palace of Schoolchildren as a symbol of the future growth of the festival.
Cage’s rep didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

The festival — which was founded in 1998, and has been held in Kazakhstan since 2010 — will also welcome John Malkovich, Adrien Brody and Bai Ling to town, according to The Astana Times.
Cage seems to be making the most of his time in the Asian country, attending a children’s film competition within the festival called Five Continents alongside Astana mayor Asset Issekeshev, according to a Kazakh international news agency. Cage also met with disabled children at the event.
He further spread his good will by reportedly planting trees with Issekeshev to represent the growth of the Five Continents contest, which debuted this year.
The 53-year-old Oscar winner does not have any films premiering at the festival, but he does have six currently in production. He most recently starred in the thriller “Inconceivable” in June.
