China Tourism Year a Great Success in Almaty, Kazakhstan
On April 21, the 17th Kazakhstan International Tourism Fair (KITF) concluded at the Atakent Exhibition Center, Almaty. The Chinese exhibition booth at the event was designed and decorated in such a way to highlight the China Tourism Year, attracting much attention from local tourism professionals and residents. Inspired by the traditional Chinese architectural design concept of “round heaven and square earth”, a cylindrical screen was set up right above the exhibition stage to showcase the images of beautiful China. The slogan “China: Beyond Your Imagination” was also launched at the event. The CNTA office in Moscow organized over 20 tourism authorities, airlines and travel agencies from Hainan, Xinjiang and other Chinese provinces (regions) to exhibit at the show.
Almaty is the best known tourist city in Kazakhstan and the KITF the biggest and the most influential tourism fair in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. As a side event of the China Tourism Year, the Chinese delegation promoted Chinese tourism brands such as the Silk Road Tour and Sunshine Hainan in light of the characteristics of the outbound tourism market in Kazakhstan. During the fair, mayor of Almaty Bauyrzhan Baibek, Arystanbek Muhamediuly, Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan and a dozen of Chinese envoys visited the Chinese exhibition booth and spoke highly of the booth design and Chinese tour products. Dragon dance, lion dance, and zither playing were staged and Chinese food offered to entertain the audience. During the three-day fair, the Chinese booth attracted over 40,000 visitors and gave out over 20,000 copies of all sorts of publicity materials. “China Tourism Night” was also staged, gathering over 200 local tourism professionals.
China and Kazakhstan are good neighbors and tourism cooperation will become key part of their bilateral partnership. China has inked the Memorandum of Understanding about Facilitating Chinese Citizens’ Group Visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan and officially opened group tours to Kazakhstan in July 2016. CNTA will take the opportunity presented by the China Tourism Year, and strengthen tourism communication and cooperation with Kazakhstan, in particular in simplifying the visa policy, developing travel routes and products and promoting tourism resources, to increase the mutual visits between the two countries.
