Kazakhstan PM Visits U.S., Signs Pack Of Agreements With It Giants
Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev paid a working trip to the United States on April 11-14.
He met with representatives of companies to discuss cooperation in the framework of the Third Modernization of Kazakhstan.
In New York, Sagintayev met with representatives of the largest financial institutions of the USA: Citigroup, Mastercard, Berkley, Morgan Stanley, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, as well as world rating agencies: Moody’s, Standard & Poor’s, Greylock Capital, Guggenheim International, Aliance Bernstein, Public Capital Advisors, Business Council of International Understanding.
The participants discussed topical issues of development of the world economy and economic policy of Kazakhstan, as well as opportunities for implementing joint projects, attracting investments, financing the infrastructure projects, and asset management.
Sagintayev met with the Head of Chevron Corporation for the Eurasian region Jeffrey T. Levy, Former mayor of New York Rudolph Giuliani, President of Citigroup James Forese, Chairman of W. R. Berkley Insurance Group B. Berkley, Head of Robotti & Company Advisors LLC I.Shcwartz, Founder of Bloomberg Company and former mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg.
Sagintayev and Bloomberg discussed issues of cooperation in the development of financial market of Kazakhstan and the Astana International Financial Center. The Kazakh PM also visited the office of Bloomberg Company, where the parties signed an agreement on opening of a Bloomberg’s TV channel and office in Astana.
In NYC, Sagintayev also met with Jamie Miller, Chief Executive Officer of GE Transportation. They discussed issues of cooperation in the gas industry. It should be noted that GE Transportation actively participates in the development of the oil and gas complex in Kazakhstan, in particular, in Karachaganak, Tengiz and Kashagan projects. The unique equipment of the company is successfully used there.
Bakytzhan Sagintayev signed agreements with the OSI Systems, Pfizer and GE Transportation; an agreement on implementation of the Rapiscan airport scanning systems in Astana and Kazakhstan customs points; agreement on the construction of a vaccine production plant in Kazakhstan.
After NYC, Mr Sagintayev headed to San Francisco for a Silicon Valley visit. A number of important meetings were held in San Francisco. The Prime Minister visited the Cisco office and met with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of John Chambers. Cisco was founded in 1984 and currently provides a full range of network equipment: routers, IP telephony products, Ethernet switches, network security devices, Wi-Fi access points, optical switching platforms, ATM switches and etc.
A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Zerde and Cisco in the framework of the Digital Kazakhstan program.
In San Francisco, Sagintayev met with the President Robomatter Inc. Skip Smith. The possibility of applying innovative educational programs of the company in Kazakhstan to teach and train young people in computer science, programming and robotics, was discussed.
Then, Bakytzhan Sagintayev visited the office of Tesla Motors and got acquainted with the full cycle of electric vehicles production based on robotics and programming.
Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with the Chairman of Chevron John Watson. During the conversation, the parties discussed the situation and forecast for the development of the world market of petroleum products, expansion of cooperation in the oil and gas projects in Kazakhstan, and Future Extension Project (FGP) in Kazakhstan.
The Prime Minister visited the IBM Watson West Center. Bakytzhanu Sagintayev was presented with the latest developments of the company in the field of artificial intelligence, image recognition and analytics, as well as innovative solutions for smart cities.
As a result of the trip, a Memorandum between IBM and Autonomous Cluster Fund “Park of Innovative Technologies” (ACF of PIT) to create a laboratory in Astana for applied research in the areas of financial technologies, technologies for the Smart City and technologies for managing urban construction and operation was signed.
Bakytzhan Sagintayev visited the office of Autodesk Company and met with Vice President David Crane. The parties discussed the creation of an Autodesk competence center in Kazakhstan. Digital standards in the field of BIM (Building Information Modeling) will be introduced within the center.
A laboratory to test and certify new building materials will be established in Kazakhstan together with Autodesk. As a result of the company’s visit, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Autodesk and ACF of PIT.
One of the most important events in the schedule of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan was participation in “Project: Collider” Technology Forum. Sagintayev has appealed to world companies-leaders in the field of innovations to invest more actively and take part in the process of modernization of the economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. “Project: Collider” Forum is an event that brings together leading investors, entrepreneurs and statesmen to discuss current trends in technological investments.
Additionally, PM Sagintayev met with Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bridge West Group, Masi Taebi. As a result of the meeting, a Memorandum of Cooperation in acquiring equipment of an American company with a view to large-scale development of Internet access networks, was signed with Kazakhtelecom JSC.
A meeting with Managing Partner at Learn Capital Greg Mauro took place. A Memorandum of Cooperation with the Information and Analytical Center of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the development of a pilot project of innovative education in the model of the so-called “charter schools” was signed.
Within the framework of the visit of Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Sagintayev to the United States, an agreement was signed on the opening of the Representative Office of Kazakhstan in Silicon Valley. The relevant Memorandum was signed between JSC Zerde National Infocommunication Holding, Autonomous Cluster Fund Park of Innovative Technologies (ACF PIT) and Venture Capital Fund GVA Capital.
The Innovative Representation will provide a platform for the development of technological start-ups from Kazakhstan in Silicon Valley, access to the best technological ideas and trends for the development of entrepreneurship and science in the Republic of Kazakhstan. And also the opportunity for large corporations from the Repubclic of Kazakhstan to participate in innovative interaction at the world level, to have access to unique information and resources.
Sagintayev also visited the office of DFJ Company and met with the founder Tim Draper. An agreement between DFJ on the support of a number of Kazakhstan companies was reached. It is worth noting that DFJ Company is focused on investing in projects in the early stages and at the stage of growth in the field of technology.
Also, Bakytzhan Sagintayev visited Google office, got acquainted with the latest developments of the company in the IT field, and also discussed with the employees interesting projects for Kazakhstan. Sagintayev met with corporate Vice President of Microsoft corporation Doug Levin. The introduction of software solutions of the company in small-scale schools of the Republic of Kazakhstan was discussed during the meeting.
The working trip of Sagintayev to the United States concluded with Google visit.
The meetings and signed documents will help Kazakhstan to create conditions for the development of digital infrastructure in our country, cultivate new industries, integrate elements of Industry 4.0 into the national economy, the press service of the Kazakh PM reported.
