Imangali Tasmagambetov Named Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Russia
The Head of State signed a decree on appointment of Imangali Tasmagambetov as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation. Imangali Tasmagambetov has been relieved of his post of the Vice Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, reports KazWorld.info with reference to Akorda press service.
Tasmaghambetov, 60, has been considered a possible successor to 76-year-old Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev, who has been running the Central Asian republic since 1989.
The President commented on appointment of Imangali Tasmagambetov as the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation.
“As you know, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador Marat Tazhin was relieved of his post. He was named First Deputy Chief of Presidential Administration. In this regard, I have appointed Imangali Tasmagambetov as the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Russia. He has been working with me for many years. He expressed a desire to serve at this post, namely in Moscow. I believe, this is a good decision, because Moscow is our main partner, close neighbor and ally,” said the President.
Imangali Tasmagambetov was born on December 9, 1956 in Novobogat village of Makhmabet area of Guriyev region.
He graduated from the Uralsk Pedagogical Institute named after Pushkin (1979), natural – geographical faculty, teacher of geography and biology.

He is a member of Council Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan. I.Tasmagambetov is Chairman of the Public Council on implementation of “Cultural heritage” state program for 2004-2006, Chairman of the National Commission of the Republic Kazakhstan on UNESCO affairs.
He is an honourable President of Federation of Bullet Shooting of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the board of ab international fund named after academician A.Margulan, a member of editorial board “Works of A.H. Margulan in 14 volumes”, Chairman of editorial council of monthly information – analytical newsletter “Sayasat – Politika”, a member of editorial council of quarterly scientific magazine “Eurasian community”.
He is Chairman of the State Commission of Kazakhstan on conducting of the Year of 10 anniversary of independence, a national deputy of the Kazakh SSR (1990 – 1991).
He is the organizer of several international cultural expeditions to Mongolia, Western Kazakhstan and the Astrakhan region of Russia (the Caspian Sea: Oil and Culture) and etc., which resulted in returning of copy of “Kul-Tegin” ancient Turk monument of monumental writing on stone – from Mongolia to Kazakhstan.
He has a degree of candidate of philological sciences. The His candidate’s dissertation considered “Ideological aspects of environmental issues” (1990).
He is a Doctor of Political Sciences, married.
