Names Of Torchbearers Of Universiade-2017 Announced
70% of torchbearers are students aged 17 – 28, who have achieved success in the fields of science, culture and sports.
The names of the torchbearers of the Universiade-2017 in all 16 cities of Kazakhstan were announced, Kazpravda.kz reports.
Among the torchbearers are the most active citizens of Kazakhstan, many of which have merits in sport and social life.
“Among them are the Olympic champion in 1980 in Greco-Roman wrestling Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov, Olympic champion in 2000 in boxing Yermakhan Ibraimov, Olympic silver medalist in 1988, the honored coach of Kazakhstan Daulet Turlyhanov, double world champion in boxing Nazim Kyzaybay, Olympic champion in Rio Rio de Janeiro in swimming Dmitry Balandin, world champion in Jiu-jitsu in Abu Dhabi Moldir Mekenbayeva and others”, – reported the press service of the Universiade.
Note that the selection of torchbearers took place in three stages. The first phase started on September 1 and involved universities of the country. At the second stage the procedures involved regional headquarters, responsible for implementing relay in the regional centers.
In addition, the second phase determined the composition of participants – winners of the previous Universiades, sports stars, science and culture representatives.
In the third stage on the site www.torchrelay.kz everyone could fill out the form and submit an application to participate in the torch relay in the torchbearer status.
We add that the flame of the 28th World Winter Universiade will be lit up January 25 in Astana. For five days each regional center will lit the flame. After that 16 torchbearers will take the flame to Almaty to combine their torches at the opening ceremony of the Universiade. In Astana the flame will be carried by 100 people.
Flame Relay program in the regions:
• January 25 in Astana the flame of the 28th World Winter Universiade will be lit up;
• January 26 the flame will be lit in the regional centers: Ust-Kamenogorsk, Pavlodar, Kokshetau, Petropavlovsk, Kostanay, Karaganda;
• On January 27 – in Aktobe, Uralsk, Atyrau, Aktau;
• On January 28 – in Kyzylorda, Shymkent, Taraz, Taldykorgan;
• On 29 January – the lighting of the flame will be held in Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty.
