Kazakhstan: Former Economic Minister Accused of Embezzling Millions Out of Construction Project

Kuandik Bishimbayev was dismissed as National Economy Minister in connection with the emerged questions on his work in Baiterek holding.

At the meeting with the Foreign Ministry’s leadership President Nursultan Nazarbayev commented on Kuandyk Bishimbaev’s dismissal from the national economy minister position, Kazpavda.kz reports with reference to Akorda.

“Kuandik Bishimbayev was dismissed in connection with the questions raised to his activities in the Baiterek holding. Currently he is under investigation, “- Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

Earlier it was reported that a number of Baiterek DEVELOPMENT JSC officials were suspected of corruption. The investigation established that they had built a corrupt scheme of systematically taking bribes in large sums for lobbying construction companies’ interests in the procurements for the construction of rental housing in the regions under the state program Nurly Zhol.
