Kazakhstan To Take All Lawful Measures To Detain Tycoon Mukhtar Ablyazov
Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan said in a statement on December 14 that it will take all lawful measures to detain Kazakh tycoon Mukhtar Ablyazov and his associates, to bring the investigation to the end, ensure fair trial and compensation of damages.
Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has previously commented the decision of the French Council of State that refused to extradite Mukhtar Ablyazov to Russia stating that the decision was groundless and the Office does not agree with it.
Accused of embezzling some $5 billion when he was head of Kazakhstan’s BTA bank, Ablyazov is wanted for embezzlement in Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine. Ablyazov was arrested in France in July.
In 2015, then Prime Minister of France Manuel Valls signed an extradition order for Ablyazov but, on December 9, The French Council of State, the country’s highest administrative court, canceled the order saying that the Russian request for extradition was politically motivated.
