Unified Railway Tariff Issue To Be Re-discussed With Kazakhstan In Late November
Unified railway tariff will be re-discussed with Kazakhstan in late November, Acting Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov said today at a meeting of the coalition of parliamentary majority.
At the meeting, the deputy Azamat Arapbaev recalled that for a year and a half, Kyrgyz entrepreneurs transport cargo through Kazakhstan at overstated rates. Kazakh Temir Zholy enriches at the expense of our business. For the year, about 2.5 million cargoes have been imported from Russia to Kyrgyzstan . Entrepreneurs overpay hundreds of millions of dollars because of the negligence of former officials.
Sooronbay Jeenbekov admitted the problem. However, he pointed out that it is impossible to solve it. According to him, Kazakhstan has openly stated that the issue should be resolved at the bilateral level and not at the level of EEU. So far, the parties failed to reach a consensus.
Note, the loss of Kyrgyz business from the non-use of unified railway tariffs have exceeded $60 million. Initially it was assumed that the presidents will sign the agreement on the application of a unified railway tariff in September on the sidelines of the CIS summit in Bishkek. The signing was postponed to October in Minsk (Belarus), at a meeting of the Prime Ministers of EEU countries. However, it didn’t happen. Now, the KR hopes to get back to the question at the end of November in Moscow.
