ASTANA – First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin recently inspected the progress of construction of the Astana International Airport, where he saw the course of construction of the new terminal and reconstruction of the runway, according to primeminister.kz.

“The object is being built under the Nurly Zhol State Programme. It will allow to increase the people flow of air harbour of the capital from 3 million to 7.7 million passengers a year, which is especially important on the eve of EXPO 2017,” according to the statement.

Construction is on schedule and the frame of a new airport terminal has been already built. Roofing work has been completed as well. Facade installation, engineering services and interior decoration of the building are being carried out now.

The object is equipped with the latest technology, which will significantly improve service and aviation security.

Construction of the facility is planned to be completed by the first quarter of 2017. Remind, that the Working Group examined the activities of the airport to identify areas where it is necessary to strengthen the work. The commission has revealed violations in the 50 contracts in the amount of 1.37 billion tenge, which is not complied with the rules of public procurement, reported the newspaper “Time”.

Anti-Corruption investigation is carried out in respect of airport of Astana management, the correspondent of Tengrinews.kz said.

Astana Airport was founded in 1931 as a small airport for small aircraft service and today it is one of the most modern airports in the region. At the moment, the airport serves 19 airlines offering scheduled passenger flights to the near and far abroad countries.

The capital’s airport offers regular flights to all regional centers of Kazakhstan, as well as to the Commonwealth of the Independent Countries cities – Moscow, Tashkent, Kiev, Minsk, Tbilisi, Bishkek, Baku, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Omsk, St. Petersburg and Ekaterinburg. There are also flights to Frankfurt, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul, Beijing, Antalya, Urumqi, Sharjah, London, Seoul and Paris. Every year, the airport launches new destinations.
