Turkmenistan Suspends Visa Free Regime With Kazakhstan

Turkey, Kazakhstan Sign Investment Agreements

Turkmenistan has suspended the visa free regime for residents of bordering Kazakh regions, official media report.

Turkmenistan requires visa for Kazakhstanis, except for the residents of Atyrau and Mangystau regions who have visa free access for up to 5 days.

“In connection with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, the Turkmen authorities are stepping up security on the border and suspend until October 27 the visa free regime for foreign citizens,” report said.

Currently, there are two checkpoints at the Kazakh-Turkmen border — Temir-Baba road checkpoint and Bolashak railroad checkpoint.

Visa regime has been relaxed (for some countries at least) in a bid to attract more visitors to international exhibition EXPO 2017 in Astana.
