Kazakhstan's initiative on convocation of OSCE Leaders Summit gains broad support on EU spaceChairman-in-Office of the OSCE, Secretary of State-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev had a bilateral meeting with his Spanish counterpart Miguel Angel Moratinos in Brussels yesterday.

The agenda of the meeting included three important issues. The first one regards mutual relations of Kazakhstan with the European Union. According to Spanish FM, Spain as the EU presiding country would bend every effort for strengthening the relations with Kazakhstan. Miguel Angel Moratinos promised to exert every effort to give start to the negotiations on a new Kazakh-EU Agreement on partnership and cooperation in the nearest time.

The next range of issues relate to Kazakhstan-Spain bilateral relations which are notable for high level. The parties highlighted warm personal relations between King Juan Carlos I and President Nursultan Nazarbayev and discussed the plans on further meetings and visits. In particular, the Spanish King is expected to visit Kazakhstan in 2010.

The third range of issues concern the OSCE. M. A. Moratinos confirmed Spain’s support of the idea of holding the OSCE Summit in Astana. In this context the parties stressed wide support of the EU countries of this initiative.

The parties also focused on possible agenda of the oncoming forum and agreed on importance of such issues as the architecture of European security in future and the Afghan situation.
