Eurasia International Film Festival Kicks off in Almaty

Eurasia International Film Festival Kicks off in – Almaty XII annual international film festival “Eurasia” has started in Almaty. Traditionally one of the main events in the Kazakh film industry started with the red carpet.

Accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), Eurasia is the largest film festival in Central Asia. Its main objectives are the meeting of European and Asian cultures, the establishment of a cultural dialogue to share whole and creating the best conditions for productive cooperation between the directors of the East and the West.

This year the festival’s theme is “love as the foundation of human life and understanding of cultures” . The program will offer a selection of over 80 international films, including a selection of 12 feature films in competition, as well as round tables and panel discussions for professionals on topics such as co-productions, grants or the growth of the film industry in Central Asia.

Russian movie “28 Panfilov’s men” opened the XII international Eurasia film festival. The main competition program includes 13 paintings, of which 3 Kazakhstan: “Once a week” director Igor Piskunov (Kazakhstan), “Plague in the village of Karatas” Adilkhan Yerzhanova and “Bopem” Jeanne Isabaeva. Chairman of the jury will speak Valeri Todorovski. In total, the festival in different programs will be shown more than 110 works from around the world, including a program of films from Kazakhstan and Central Asia under the brand name “Constellation of Shaken”. In addition to the competition of feature films for the first time held an international competition of short films. For the first time in the framework of the International Film Festival “Eurasia” will be shown different genres Arab films. Film Festival will present the program and documentaries, as well as a special children’s program.

Festival Events are divided into three parts: “The love of the city”, in which will be organized film screenings in public places; “The love of cinema” – the main competitive and non-competitive program; and “Love in the profession” – a series of workshops, press conferences, round tables, professional meetings industry representatives. Thus, through a series of events EURASIA SPOTLIGHT business platform will host a roundtable on the topic “The social significance of cinema in Kazakhstan today.” Kazakhstani cinematographers organized presentation of new projects for potential sponsors and learning opportunities in European film schools.

In addition to the main awards at the International Film Festival “Eurasia” will be awarded prizes by an independent jury NETPAK (Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema) and FIPRESCI (International Federation of cinema press). There will also be prizes for the first time awarded the National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences “Tulpar”. All winners will be announced at the closing ceremony on September 30.
