David Moyes has revealed his amazement that Phil Neville has not been called into the England squad.
The Everton captain, 32, was snubbed by England boss Fabio Capello for the World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra despite a superb season AND the fact his 34-year-old brother Gary got a shock call-up.
Neville is expected to shake off a hamstring strain to play in Saturday’s FA Cup Final against Chelsea, but Moyes believes his international days are now over after 59 caps.
“I think Phil has got to the stage where he won’t get picked again,” he said. “Yet in terms of consistency and reliability, he has been great. I’m just pleased he is playing so well for us.
“I’ve worked and played with some really good professionals but in recent years Phil would be the best.
“He has taken this team to extraordinary heights and this has been his best-ever season.”
