Kazakhstan supports the process of revival of OIC as effective forum of Muslim countries: Foreign Ministry


36 session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference was held on May 23-25 in Damask. Representatives of 57 Islamic countries took part in the session. The Kazakh delegation was headed by Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Nurlan Yermekbayev, Kazinform refers to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

The participants noted that the 10-year Action Program of the OIC, developed in 2005, is a real document identifying the main directions of the activity of the Organization for the future. Kazakhstan supports the process of revival of the OIC as an effective and authoritative forum of Muslim countries of the world.

N.Yermekbayev stressed the importance of the coming chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC in 2011 that will be the continuation of the diplomacy of our country after the OSCE chairmanship. Our republic intends to use effectively the period of its chairmanship in the Organization for establishment of cooperation with the OIC and the Islamic world.

Foreign Ministers of the OIC member states highly appraised the role of Kazakhstan in the global interconfessional dialogue.

Within the conference N.Yermekbayev held meetings with Secretary General of the Organization Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Foreign Ministers of Syria Walid al-Moallem, Iraq – Hoshyar Zebari, Oman – Yousuf bin Alawi.

Diplomatic relations of Kazakhstan with Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Gabon were established within the conference as well.
