Mexican embassy to be opened in AstanaAstana opens Mexican embassy in Kazakhstan. This was announced during the meeting of the Chairman of the Senate Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev and Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate of Mexico, Gabriela Cuevas Barron, reports.

According to Tokayev, the visit of the Mexican senator means the launch of the parliamentary dialogue between Kazakhstan and Mexico. The Senate Speaker talked about the current development of Kazakhstan and plans to implement five institutional reforms of President Nursultan Nazarbayev. He called for full use of the new possibilities of the Kazakh-Mexican trade and economic cooperation in the context of the functioning of the Eurasian Economic Union and the integration associations in Latin America. In addition, Tokayev invited the Mexican companies to take part in the international exhibition “EXPO-2017” in Astana.

Cuevas stressed that Mexico attaches great importance to development of comprehensive relations with Kazakhstan, as evidenced by the opening of the Mexican Embassy in Astana this year. She also called for strengthening inter-parliamentary ties on a bilateral level and within international parliamentary forums.

The two sides also exchanged views on countering terrorism and drug trafficking.

Kazakhstan offers Mexico to sign agreement on avoidance of double taxation

President Nursultan Nazarbayev intends to pay a visit to Mexico this year, in the frames of which it is planned to sign agreements on several issues, reports citing the press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

This was announced at a meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yerlan Idrisov and the chairman of the Senate Committee of the Parliament of Mexico, the National Action Party member Gabriela Cuevas.

“Taking into account the outcome of the negotiations on accession to the WTO, Yerlan Idrisov offered to sign the Convention on Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Agreement on mutual protection of investments during the planned visit of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Mexico this fall, as well as to consider the inclusion of Kazakhstan in the system of Mexican visa electronic confirmation, ” – stated in the press release.

The parties also discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation, which has reached the new level: “The proof of this is the decision of the Government of Mexico to open an embassy in Astana this year, and we are ready to render all possible assistance in this matter.”

In addition, Idrisov informed about the interest in developing closer cooperation with Mexico in such industries as petrochemical, machinery, mining, metallurgy, textile, food, and invited the leading Mexican companies to cooperate with Kazakh business in agriculture and food production.

The Minister thanked the Mexican side for the support of Kazakhstan’s candidacy for non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2017-2018.

In turn, Gabriela Cuevas said that Mexico closely monitors the progress of Kazakhstan within the country and in the international arena, and is ready to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields, boost interaction in multilateral formats.
