Mikel Landa of the Astana cycling team has become the winner of the 15th stage at the Giro d’Italia (Tour of Italy), Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
The Spanish cycler was the first racer to complete the 165 km stage (4:22:35). He was followed by the Russian cycler from Katyusha Yuriy Trofimov. The captain of Tinkoff-Saxo Alberto Contador arrived third to the finish line. Meanwhile, the captain of Astana Fabio Aru was the fourth.
“It’s an important win for me and the team, because a win like this belongs to everyone when you work as we did today. We were in three, we had the numerical advantage and we couldn’t let the stage win escape from us,” Landa said.
Contador leads the general classification of the Giro d’Italia. Aru follows 2 minutes and 35 seconds behind. Landa is in the fourth place in the general classification.
“I can only continue to give my best. Astana was very strong today, it was like a team time trial with me on their wheel. But my legs were good and I would have liked to win the stage, thinking of Pantani who was a source of inspiration for me,” Contador commented.
It is the second victory of the Astana cyclers in the race. Earlier, Paolo Tiralongo won the 9th stage of the Tour of Italy.
