Kazakhstan registers 3rd presidential candidate

Kazakhstan’s Central Election Commission, the CEC, registered the third candidate for participation in the upcoming presidential election.
The CEC said in a message that it registered Abilgazi Kusainov, a self-nominated candidate on March 18.
Kazak presidential election is due on April 26.
Earlier the CEC registered the incumbent president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, nominated by the Nur Otan Party, and Turgun Syzdykov, nominated by the Communist People’s Party, for their participation in the election.
Kazakhstan’s president, according to the country’s constitution, is elected by adult citizens on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage through secret voting. The president is elected for a term of five years.
The president’s position may be held by a person who is a Kazakh citizen by birth, no younger than 40, fluent in Kazakh language, and who has lived in Kazakhstan for the past 15 years.
