President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Ratification of the Charter of the Organization of the Islamic Food Security,” reports Kazpravda.kz quoting Akorda.
According to the document, Kazakhstan will host the headquarters of the organization, thereby assuming the role of coordinator for food security in the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The offer to host the headquarters of the Food Safety was announced by President Nursultan Nazarbayev in 2011 at the 38th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC.
According to the Minister of Agriculture Asylzhan Mamytbekov, who presented the bill in the Parliament, the situation in the world shows the increasing relevance of food security because of the projected growth of population, urbanization and changing the food consumption habits.
The source of funding will become mandatory dues of members, donations and voluntary contributions.
For its part, Kazakhstan in the next three years will allocate funds as voluntary contributions from the state budget of RK to ensure the organization’s activities. Thus, in 2015 KZT 145 million will be provided from the republican budget.
“Creating the organization provides direct benefits to Kazakhstan to expand the capacity of food exports, development and modernization of infrastructure investment,” – said Mamytbekov.
