Nursultan Nazarbayev: "At present, Asia and Europe need to rediscover each other"Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who is on a visit to Italy, took part in the plenary session of the 10th Summit of the Forum “Asia-Europe” and spoke on the theme “Financial Development and Economic Cooperation through expanding the relationship.

Kazakh President noted that the task of finding joint responses to modern challenges and threats dictates to the states of Europe and Asia a unifying agenda, reports kazpravda.kz citing the press service of the head of state.

The most effective way to overcome the crisis, Nursultan Nazarbayev said, is the disclosure of the integration potential of the Eurasian region. In this regard, the Head of State indicated his vision of cooperation on the continent.

According to the President of Kazakhstan, it is necessary to change the paradigm of international cooperation, which involves the transition to practical action in matters of eliminating protectionist barriers, increasing bilateral trade and opening of markets.

Another direction, according to the Head of State is the transformation of the global financial architecture, overcoming imbalances in the financial sector and the development of an effective model for the regulation of international capitals’ flows.

Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed the need for new financial binder bridges, noting that the regional financial center of Almaty has a lot of potential for this.

Another key condition for the development of the region, according to the Kazakh President is  strengthening of transport and transit infrastructure, in particular, the revival of the Silk Road, which will provide Europe with the shortest and safest route to Asia.

The President also stressed the importance of access to modern technologies and energy resources. Kazakhstan, being a stable supplier of energy to Europe and Asia, is making efforts to further diversify energy routes.

In addition, the President of Kazakhstan said that currently Asia and Europe need to rediscover each other and build a fundamentally new basis of cooperation. The initiative “G-GLOBAL” can be offered by our country as a platform for concerted international action in the field of economics and finance.

At the end Nursultan Nazarbayev assured that Kazakhstan, as a full member of the Forum “Asia-Europe”, is ready to provide all possible support to promote dialogue and cooperation on the continent.

Nursultan Nazarbayev held a briefing to summarize participation in the X Summit of the Forum “Asia-Europe”.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said that the concept of the Forum “Asia-Europe” is in harmony with the “Eurasian idea,” Kazpravda.kz reports referring to the Akorda website.

It is known that one of the key aspects of the Eurasian idea is to develop close economic and trade relations between Europe and Asia. The President stressed that among all the Central Asian countries, only Kazakhstan was invited to the event, attended by the Heads of State and Government from more than 50 countries.

Such forums, he said, provide an opportunity to exchange views on topical issues with other heads of state. Recall, within almost 2 days of the summit, Nursultan Nazarbayev met with the leaders of Britain, Japan, Germany, China, South Korea, Hungary, Italy and the Netherlands. The President said that the talks were aimed at further expanding and deepening cooperation, as well as defining new ways for cooperation.

“These meetings raise the prestige of our country in the world, expand opportunities for attracting investment in Kazakhstan within a difficult situation in the global economy, and create a favorable attitude towards our country. Many countries are planning to invest in Kazakhstan, that stimulate economic growth, create new  jobs and improve people’s welfare, ” – said Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The Milan summit widely discussed resolving of the situation in Ukraine. Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the conflict should be resolved exclusively through the negotiation process, and Kazakhstan is making all the necessary efforts for this.

He also briefed on the results of the recent visits to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Republic of Belarus. “The global financial crisis is still having a negative impact on the international markets, including on our country, – said Nursultan Nazarbayev. – In this context, the last month visits are aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation with various countries to strengthen business ties and further develop Kazakhstan’s economy. ”

At the same time, the President drew attention to the importance of the document signed at Brussels on completion of negotiations on the draft agreement on enhanced partnership and cooperation of Kazakhstan and the EU, which lasted over six years. Another important document is on completion of bilateral negotiations with the European Union on Kazakhstan’s accession to the WTO.

The President of Kazakhstan said the trade turnover between our country and the EU member states is $ 53 billion, and this agreement will create opportunities for more intensive interaction between the parties. This will attract more investment and boost the economy.

Nursultan Nazarbayev met with UK Prime Minister

The President also met with government leaders of Italy and Hungary.

Nursultan Nazarbayev met with British Prime Minister David Cameron, Kazpravda.kz reports quoting the website of Akorda.

“The parties of the meeting discussed development of cooperation in trade, economic and investment areas. Views were also exchanged on major international issues and key aspects of the regional security,” – according to the website.

The President of Kazakhstan  met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The two leaders discussed ways of intensifying relations in various areas, including trade, economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation, as well as the prospects for interaction in the framework of various international organizations. Furthermore, regional security was discussed.

Today Nazarbayev also met with the head of the Italian government Matteo Renzi. The meeting discussed the main cooperation aspects between the two countries in the economic, trade, investment and other fields, also progress of the agreements reached during the visit of Matteo Renzi to Kazakhstan. Views were exchanged on the most pressing issues on the international agenda.

As has been earlier informed, October 16-17 President Nazarbayev is on a visit in Milan to attend the X Summit of the Forum “Asia-Europe” (ASEM).
