Runner from Kazakhstan wins Moscow Athletics Marathon

The second athletics marathon took place in Moscow on Sunday.
The 42 kilometers and 195 meters race was won by the Kazakh runner Irina Smolnikova who showed the result of 2 hours 40 minutes 22 seconds. The second place went to Russian woman Oksana Akimenkova (2: 43.29), the third – to Lyubov Denisova from Gainesville (US, 2: 44.41).
The marathon has joined more than 13 thousand people. According to the organizers of the sports event, traffic in the city center was restricted throughout the morning. Police and city officials created a pedestrian only zone for the runners.
The Moscow marathon is first and foremost a charity event. The funds collected will be used for the treatment of children with severe disease.
Kazakhstan athlete will take home a purse of 1.7 Million Rubles (45000 USD) and an expensive watch with diamonds for her victory.
The men’s run was won by Kenyan Solomon Kibet Barngetuni. His time of 2:17.20 is a new record for the Marathon, breaking the previous record of 2:19.36 set by Ukrainian Alexander Matviychuk.
