Ballet dancer of Bordeaux National Opera to perform in AstanaAstana residents and guests have a great opportunity to enjoy Romeo and Juliet ballet by Sergei Prokofiev based on William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet directed by French choreographer Charles Jude. Etoile (highest rank in ballet) of the National Opera of Bordeaux of France Roman Mikhalev will star as romantic Romeo and convey a great variety of feelings to his spectators on September 19, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of Astana Opera House.

Astana Opera leading ballerina Madina Basbayeva will star as Juliet. Earlier this year, the leading ballerina performed Kitri’s part in Don Quixote on the stage of the Bordeaux National Opera on the invitation of French choreographer Charles Jude and was highly appreciated by the French audience.

Guests and spectators will also be able to plunge into the era of the heroic exploits with its elegant decor and spectacular costumes made by Italian masters Ezio Frigerio and Franco Skuarchapino. Aidar Abzhahanov will be the conducting the orchestra.

Roman Mikhalev is the leading soloist of the Bordeaux ballet troupe. He is the winner of the third prize of the International Maya Ballet Artists Competition in St. Petersburg (1999), the First Prize at Rudolf Nureyev International Ballet Competition in Budapest (2000) and the Silver Medal of the IX International Ballet Competition in Moscow (2001).

The ballet will begin at 7 p.m. on September 19 at Astana Opera House as a part of the First Silk Road International Festival. The theater is located on Kunayev street, at the crossing with Turan Av.
