Head of State briefs on results of the meeting held in Minsk

Nursultan Nazarbayev has held a briefing on the results of the meeting which joined the leaders of CU, Ukraine and representatives of the European Union.
Kazakhstan President noted the importance of the event aimed at resolving the situation in Ukraine, according to Akorda.
President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has called for a truce in Ukraine to render humanitarian aid.
“It is crucial to declare truce in the country to help women and children suffered from the military conflict in the southeast of Ukraine,” the President said at the trilateral meeting in Minsk.
Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that our country initiated consideration of humanitarian assistance provision to the civilian population of Donbass and Lugansk.
“Kazakhstan is also willing to take part in the activity. I have put forward a proposal to declare a truce during the period of humanitarian aid delivery. Other countries should give a hand too, not only Russia”, said the President of Kazakhstan.
President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has called on the West and Russia to end the standoff over sanctions.
As the President noted, reciprocal sanctions lead economic potential of countries to decline, make ordinary people suffer, trigger off social tension and bring to a new round of world recession.
Head of State noted that Kazakhstan is interested in further strengthening of mutual benefit trade and economic cooperation both with CU member states and Ukraine and the EU. “Therefore, we are ready to seek for and debate ways to improve multilateral trade relations,” the Head of State stressed.
Kazakhstan President noted that one of the main goals of the event was that Moscow and Kiev have agreed to intensify the work of the trilateral group for the implementation of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement.
“Kazakhstan and Ukraine have historical ties. Trade with Ukraine occupies a large share of Kazakhstan’s foreign trade. We are strongly worried about what is happening in Ukraine. I have made every effort to ensure that the parties have reached the agreement and solved the existing questions. Personal meeting between Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko is the main outcome of today’s event”, he said.
President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed to hold regular trilateral meetings discuss settlement situation in Ukraine.
“We propose to maintain the format of high-level negotiations to come up with win-win solutions that started today,” the Head of State said during the summit of the leaders of the CU, President of Ukraine and EU representatives in Minsk.
“It is necessary to hold such meetings regularly to continue constructive negotiation process,” the Present noted.

President Nazarbayev calling for truce in Ukraine

Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev has called to declare truce in Ukraine, a Tengrinews correspondent reports from Minsk, Belarus.
“We are urging to immediately resolve the humanitarian catastrophe in the East of Ukraine. The task now is to ensure a large-scaled humanitarian aid campaign to assist Ukraine’s people, (…) the efforts should be supported by international organizations, including the Customs Union and the CIS”, President Nazarbayev said when speaking at the summit of the Customs Union heads of state, Ukraine’s President and reps of the EU.
“Kazakhstan is ready to render all possible aid, including via the country’s Red Cross and Red Crescent. Among other things, the organization could act as a neutral middleman when escorting humanitarian freights sent by other nations. There should be an unbiased international control system to ensure timely supplies of humanitarian aid to Ukraine. I would call the sides to declare truce to facilitate the humanitarian aid campaign,” he said.
When speaking on the necessity of peaceful settlement, Kazakhstan’s President urged to give up on military solutions. “There should be a peaceful respite to save lives of innocent women and children that have become hostages of the military stand off. We are calling the sides to cease fire,” he said.
Among other things, President Nazarbayev stated it was important to stop reciprocal sanctions that have an adverse affect on common citizens and may trigger a new wave of the global financial crisis.
“Europe and Asia will be among the first to be hit (…) Therefore, we are calling to get back to constructive interaction and to start lifting the sanctions gradually,” President Nazarbayev said.
“Not only the South-East of Ukraine, but the entire Ukraine needs large-scaled aid efforts of the whole international community. Not only Western countries, but also countries of the East should contribute to the efforts. Such concerted efforts are of paramount importance to prevent an economic collapse in Ukraine. We should come up with an idea of an international fund to bolster the Ukrainian economy,” he said.
President Nazarbayev called the international community to facilitate Ukraine and Russia coming to terms on gas supplies before the winter season started.
“We welcome the intention to discuss conditions of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. It is important that the document takes into consideration interests of the neighboring countries, including those of the Customs Union [of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus]”, President said, adding that Kazakhstan could host the next round of the talks among the Customs Union, Ukraine and the EU.

Kazakhstan and Belarus are confident in the positive effect from the meeting of Customs Union – Ukraine – European Union, which took place August 26 in Minsk, reports Kazpravda.kz citing akorda.kz. According to the press service of RK President, Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk. “During the meeting, they discussed results of the meeting of the leaders of Customs Union, Ukraine and representatives of the European Union. The heads of state expressed confidence that the results achieved at the summit will have a positive impact on the situation in Ukraine,” – it is said in the statement. Nursultan Nazarbayev and Alexander Lukashenko addressed the key issues of bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, industrial and innovation and agro-industrial sectors, the interaction in the framework of integration structures and relevant aspects of the international agenda. Recall, on the sidelines of the summit in Minsk, President of Kazakhstan met with head of Ukraine Pyotr Poroshenko. Kazakhstan intends to increase trade and economic cooperation with Ukraine, as it was noted during the negotiations. Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed hope that CU – Ukraine-EU talks in Minsk will be successful.
Kazakhstan will continue stepping up trade and economic cooperation with Ukraine, Nursultan Nazarbayev said in the talks with the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in Minsk, according to the Akorda website. The talks also covered key steps towards boosting bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
“Touching on economic issues, Kazakhstan President emphasized the importance of continuing the work of the bilateral intergovernmental commission to promote free trade with Ukraine. He noted that our country has good relations with Ukraine and intends to continue to step up trade and economic cooperation,” – the RK President’s site says.
Poroshenko noted that Kazakhstan had always been a reliable friend of Ukraine. “Our relations have developed in a friendly way. Today an important talk will take place, which will bring up development of a free trade zone with the European Union and the model of our cooperation with the Customs Union, which will remove all obstacles to the expansion of our mutual trade. We are interested in it, and we have a huge potential, “- said the Ukrainian president ahead of the talks with the leaders of the CU and the EU representatives, stressing that his country ties many expectations with this meeting.
Poroshenko thanked Nazarbayev for his firm position on peace in Ukraine.
The two leaders exchanged views on a speedy settlement of the situation in Ukraine.
“Relations between our two countries have always been friendly. This is why I am very much concerned and worried about the current situation in Ukraine. Your dialogue with the Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin is very important. This day is momentous both to Russia and Ukraine, because the bloodshed cannot continue any longer. Ordinary people are suffering from it. This is what should be talked about now, “- Kazakhstan President said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed hope that negotiations CU-Ukraine- EU will succeed in reaching a compromise.
“The current situation in Ukraine may lead to large-scale global clash. Therefore, our position is finding common ground to end the conflict and start the recovery process,” – Kazakhstan leader said.

Nazarbayev proposed to hold next meeting of CU-Ukraine-EU in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan President underscored the need for recovery of Ukrainian economy and proposed to establish special international headquarters or fund for it.
President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed to keep up the format of top-level talks in Minsk and to conduct them on a regular basis, ITAR-TASS reported. The next such meeting, he offered, could take place in Kazakhstan.
During the meeting in the format of the CU – Ukraine – EU Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed to set already today the date of the next negotiations. He underscored the need for recovery of the Ukrainian economy. To do this, he proposed the creation of a special international headquarters or a fund to support the economy of Ukraine. Nazarbayev said that Kazakhstan is ready to share its experience of combating the crisis that the country underwent in 2008-2009.
Earlier, the President of Kazakhstan held a bilateral meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart.
