Most of the projects in SPAIID-1 were not related to industrialization - NazarbayevThe President noted that Kazakhstan was unable to create a critical mass of successful industrial projects based on innovation and modern technologies.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the bulk of the projects in the first Five-Year Plan of the State program on accelerated industrial-innovative development were not directly related to industrialization, reports

“The program’s projects were not directly related to industrialization. Thus, the major part of the SPAIID was the raw material projects, one third – the infrastructure projects. As a result, we already see a slowdown in economic growth. This is, of course, connected with the problems of the world economy and we must act together to deal with the issue of industrialization, from the President to heads of regions and business leaders and business structures. All of us must be involved in this, – said the head of state, after hearing the progress report of the Government on the State program of accelerated industrial-innovative development.

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted successful development in the country of only machine-building and chemical industries. Some results were achieved due to the projects launched before the SPAIID, among which are the corporation Kazakhmys, transport corridor Western Europe – Western China, the subway in Almaty and others.

“We could not create a critical mass of successful industrial projects based on innovations and modern technologies. Such projects that would serve as a launching pad for industrial revolution and the core of the whole industry around it, – said the President.

Kazakhstan has all chances to become the EEU transport and logistics hub

Nursultan Nazarbayev believes logistics is one of the PAIID priorities.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev believes that the transport and logistics industry will help Kazakhstan to become the center of transportation of goods and services in the Eurasian Economic Union, reports.

“I think that one of the priorities of the second five-year industrialization plan is the logistics area. (…) Due to the Eurasian Economic Union, we can become a logistics hub of Eurasia” – Nazarbayev said at the meeting dedicated to the PAIID progress. The President explained that Kazakhstan has many promising projects to achieve this goal. Thus, in 2015, construction of transcontinental highway Western Europe-Western China, Temirtau-Karaganda, then Almaty-Kapshagay and Taldykorgan-East will be completed. Construction of a dry port in FEZ “Horgos-Eastern Gates” and three dry cargo terminals is underway to expand capacity of the Aktau seaport. Besides, construction of the highway Astana-Pavlodar has started, and construction of the railway Zhezkazgan– Beineu and another railway in Mangystau region with access to the Persian Gulf is under completion.

“Logistics in all directions is very important. Kazakhstan is a landlocked country and logistics is vital for us. We build a logistics terminal and start promoting products from the Chinese port Lianyungang through Kazakhstan to the west. This reduces transportation time (by sea) from 35 to 15 days. Contracts have already been signed, 250 000 containers will be on the way. It’s good for us and for logistics. It is expected that the capacity of this terminal will be doubled by 2020. Due to this, Kazakhstan will have direct access to the markets of the Asia-Pacific region and the Gulf countries,” – stressed N. Nazarbayev.
