“It is possible to increase the potential for trade-economic cooperation between the Turkic-speaking states by addressing the issues of cargo transportations”, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has said today at the IX Summit of the Heads of Turkic-speaking States in Nakhchivan.

“The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and independent Turkic countries was up to USD 1.5 bln in the first half of 2009 that is 49% lower compared to the last year. If we divide this figure by rates of separate countries, we will see that the trade turnover between our countries doesn’t use it inner potential fully. The only way to increase the trade-economic potential is to address the issues of cargo transportations”, the Head of the State said.

In this regard N.Nazarbayev noted that Kazakhstan adopted long-term Transport Strategy for realization of the transcontinental transit North-South and East-West and allocated funds for its realization.

“Revival of the Great Silk Way will promote prosperity of all Eurasian space. Following this statement, Kazakhstan set about construction of “West Europe – West China” transcontinental transport corridor in 2007″, N.Nazarbayev said.

According to the President, the mentioned projects guarantee improvement of contacts between the Turkic-speaking states and additional increase of international transit cargo transportations.
