Majilis Chairman Nurlan Nigmatulin visited the Republic of Azerbaijan, where he signed a coop agreement.
Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan have established a constructive dialogue, an extensive legal base covering all segments of interstate relations. Thanks to the joint efforts, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking states, seated in Baku, the Turkic Academy and the Council of Aksakals are working efficiently. Besides, an agreement on establishment of a Foundation of Turkic culture and heritage has been reached.
The solid ground for relations of the two fraternal nations is the cultural and humanitarian ties, developed and strengthened by the International Organization of Turkic Culture.
Moreover, 150 thousand Azerbaijanis reside in Kazakhstan and are united by the Azeri ethnic culture centers in our country. Friendship Society “Azerbaijan – Kazakhstan” named after G. Aliyev has been successfully working in Azerbaijan for twenty years.
The Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, close interaction between the Parliaments, regular visits contribute to the collaboration.
Nurlan Nigmatulin met with Oktay Asadov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Milli Majlis to discuss cooperation in political, trade-economic, scientific-technical and socio- cultural areas.
O. Asadov expressed hope that the visit will give a new impetus to development of inter-parliamentary relations. Kazakh-Azerbaijani cooperation has deep roots and since independence time, it has reached a new level of strategic partnership.
N. Nigmatulin congratulated his colleagues on successful presidential elections, held in October 2013.
Azerbaijan is a key and reliable partner of Kazakhstan in the Caucasus region. The interaction is based on the Agreement on strategic partnership and allied relations, signed by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in 2005.
Our countries are actively cooperating within such organizations as the UN, OSCE, OIC, CICA, CIS and TURKSOI. N. Nigmatullin thanked the Azerbaijani side for support of Astana’s bid for hosting EXPO 2017 and invited Azeri companies to participate in it.
Mutual trade turnover in Jan-Oct 2013 amounted to about $ 364 million and it must be further developed. The promising areas of cooperation are the joint investment projects for oil and gas transportation, agriculture, transport and communications, and other industries. Besides, the inter-regional cooperation is boosted by the ferry route Baku -Aktau-Baku, as well as close contacts between the international trade seaports Aktau and Baku.
N. Nigmatullin noted that the Parliament is focused on the legislative support of the President’s Strategy Kazakhstan 2050. Azerbaijan has also ambitious tasks in industrialization and competitiveness of the economy, development of innovative technologies and improvement of people’s welfare.
Kazakhstan Parliament pays special attention to the legislative support for the agreements, reached by the two Presidents. Kazakh MPs elaborated a number of proposals aimed at further strengthening of cooperation. The signed agreement on cooperation will be the legal basis for this. The parties noted that the Agreement is an important document that opens up a new phase of cooperation.
In the frames of the visit, the Kazakh MPs met with the faculty and students of Baku State University to talk on the Strategy Kazakhstan 2050, The President’s Address and Kazakh- Azerbaijani cooperation.
N. Nigmatullin confirmed that friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership with Azerbaijan are among priorities of the foreign policy of Kazakhstan.
Majilis Speaker also stressed the need to boost cooperation in oil and gas, industrial sectors, transport, logistics and agriculture.
N. Nigmatullin also visited the Abay Center of the Kazakh language, history and culture, which was opened at the University a few years ago.
– Meetings in Azerbaijan will stimulate development of our inter-parliamentary relations. And the cooperation agreement between the RK Majilis and Azerbaijani Milli Majlis will help make the interaction more effective.
