President’s visit to Atyrau

President Nursultan Nazarbayev paid a working visit to Atyrau oblast, where he sized up the performance of investment projects at the Atyrau refinery and appreciated the teaching level at the Nazarbayev Intellectual School, opened in the region last year.
At the public meeting in Atyrau that took place at the Nazarbayev Intellectual School, the President re-emphasized the need to update the education system.
– These schools open for gifted children, but it does not mean that students at other schools are inferior to them, – the President said, – 25 % of the gifted graduates go to the Nazarbayev University , thus keeping up continuity of learning, he added. There are about three thousand candidates seeking admission to the intellectual school, but it is designed for 720 students, who have undergone a stringent selection.
He stressed that success of Kazakhstan -2050 Strategy depends on everyone, this very Intellectual School students too, and on the older generation who has lived through the difficult years of building the independence.
– To be among the 30 world advanced nations, we must all pool the efforts. Along with the economy, we have to raise the level of culture, education, medicine.
At the public meeting N.Nazarbayev opined that it’s possible to rename the country.
– Kazakhstan has the “stan” ending, as in other Central Asian nations. Meanwhile, foreigners are interested in Mongolia, with an only 2 million population that does not have this ending. Perhaps over time we should consider renaming our country into “Kazakh Eli”, but discuss it with the people first, he believes.
N. Nazarbayev then stressed that while maintaining the unity and tolerance, Kazakhstan would achieve all the goals – Our advantage is in the ethnic diversity of the nation.
The President also visited the Atyrau refinery to assess the progress of two investment projects – the construction of aromatic hydrocarbons production complex and the construction of deep oil refining complex (DORC). Innovative development involves at present all areas of life in the country, and in this regard Atyrau region shows good results – the oil sector is a kind of a catalyst in addressing the economic diversification tasks. In it business plays a special role.
At a meeting with Atyrau businessmen, N.Nazarbayev stated that under the AIID state programme 800 enterprises have been launched, 700 billion tenge was allocated and 150 000 jobs have opened. Development of small and medium-sized businesses is prioritized in the state-of-the-nation Address.
During the meeting, the Atyrau region’s governor Baktykozha Izmuhambetov made progress report on the socio-economic development of the oblast, saying that last year the industrial production volume in the region grew by 8.8% and reached 4 trillion 581 billion tenge, the tax revenues – more than 2 trillion tenge. As of 2013 year-end the budget is 99.9 % implemented.
To develop agribusiness and pursuing the food security goal, 5 investment projects the total sum of 3.5 billion tenge were launched in the past year on the local budget means. Among them are two large dairy productions of cow and goat milk, built on the western model using modern technology. This work will continue.
According to B.Izmuhambetov, implementation of industrial projects stimulates the development of small and medium-sized businesses, given the grown number of its players- nearly 90 000 people. The output of the small and medium business is worth the sum of 471.5 billion tenge.
Alia Bekkuzhieva- the head of the Atyrau region’s businessmen’s and employers’ union said the population’s mentality has undergone changes over the recent years. People came to realize that the work in the oil industry alone is not enough for all, and many of them open own business, run by whole families.
The President instructed the Regional Development Minister Bolat Zhamishev, attending the meeting, to intensify efforts in providing the population with water and in construction of infrastructure and social facilities.
