Astana to host International Conference «Trans Eurasia 2014»

International Conference on Transport and transit potential «Trans Eurasia 2014» will be held in Astana in May 2014, this has been announced by the Minister of Transport and Communications Askar Zhumagaliyev in his speech at the 17th Eurasian Economic Forum in Istanbul.
As the press service of the Kazakh Embassy in Turkey reported, A. Zhumagaliyev stressed that for Kazakhstan, which has no access to the sea, the most important factor in international trade is the establishment of efficient transit transport systems and the development of transport infrastructure. This event will be held in the framework of the 7th Astana Economic Forum and the 2nd World Anti-Crisis conference to take place on May 21-23, 2014. The program of the event includes the following activities: The 11th International Conference «Trans Eurasia 2014» and the International exhibition «Transit Kazakhstan 2014», which will showcase the latest achievements of the transport industry of the Eurasian region.
In addition, meetings will be held at the level of Ministers of Transport of Turkic-speaking states of the Common Economic Space, round tables devoted to the implementation of concession projects in transport sector and improvement of Kazakhstan’s transit potential.
These events will provide a comprehensive vision of all types of modern transport and logistics systems for transit, the prospects for further development of the transport infrastructure in Kazakhstan, the dynamics of growth in transit traffic in the Eurasian area, and will also contribute to strengthening the image of Kazakhstan as a transit country.
He also noted that as part of the President’s ideas on the development of the historic «Silk Road» and transit potential, Kazakhstan makes a significant contribution to the enhancement of transport routes in Eurasia, implementing priority projects such as the construction of the transit corridor «Western Europe – Western China» as well as in the field of maritime communications, increasing the capacity of Aktau seaport, which is located at the junction of transport corridors «TRACECA» and «North-South». In this regard, A. Zhumagaliyev noted that the launch of Kars-Tbilisi-Baku railway main line will enhance the ability of the Kazakh port of Aktau.
The forum was attended by representatives from more than 25 countries of the Eurasian space as well as foreign and Turkish MPs, reps of international organizations, heads of diplomatic missions, NGOs and others. The conference included a special session with the participation of representatives of the agencies combating human trafficking.
