Under the amended law on labor migration, signed by the President in December last year, the issuance of permits to foreign nationals for work for individuals has been facilitated. The rules will take effect from February.
The new law, the Almaty interior department says, legalizes labor migration, bringing it out of the informal sector. The law applies to nationals of countries with which Kazakhstan signed agreements on visa-free entry and stay.
From now on, any citizen of Kazakhstan is entitled to hire no more than 5 labor migrants, and the latter will pay the tax of 2 MCI – about 3700 tenge. The guest workers are also required to have an IIN and leave the country on expiry of a year’s time. They may go back again a month later, but only in case they had filled out the declaration and reaffirmed their incomes during the first visit.
Besides, each worker must have a bank account with the sum sufficient to return home. Over the last year 174 thousand foreign citizens were registered for temporary stay in Almaty, including more than 120 thousand from CIS.
