Kazakh Secretary of State held range of meetings in New York

Bilateral and multilateral meetings of Heads of states and Governments, heads of national delegations and international organizations are held within the UN General Assembly in New York.

Kazakh Secretary of State – Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev met with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Wednesday. The sides highly appraised the April visit of Nursultan Nazarbayev to Beijing that gave a powerful impetus to the partnership. Kanat Saudabayev noted that the cooperation with China is one of the main priorities of the Head of the State.

The Ministers expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation, in particular, realization of projects in the energy sphere. The importance of effective use of funds to the amount of USD 10 bln allocated by China for the straightening of trade-economic contacts between the countries was stressed.

The sides also discussed the initiative of the Kazakh President to announce August 29 International Day for nuclear weapons free world. Yang Jiechi noted that China appreciates the efforts of Kazakhstan on disarmament and non-proliferation and keeps a close watch on the initiatives of our country in this sphere.

The State Secretary met with European Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner. She was Austrian Foreign Minister during the period of Austria’s OSCE chairmanship. Benita Ferrero-Waldner supported the Kazakh initiative and expressed comprehension of the challenged standing before our country. The European Commission already renders assistance to Kazakhstan in preparation to the OSCE chairmanship. K.Saudabayev assured that Kazakhstan will make every effort for rapprochement of countries and reduction of contradiction. 

Foreign Ministers of Georgia, Latvia, Slovenia, Canada and Slovakia were interested in priorities of Kazakhstan at the post of the OSCE chairman in 2010. Kanat Saudabayev informed on priority of the stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan. Canadian Foreign Minister assured that his country will render all necessary assistance in preparation and successful chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the OSCE that plays an important role in the provision of stability and security at the territory from Vancouver to Vladivostok.

USA Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard C. Holbrooke at the meeting with K.Saudabayev noted the importance of the Kazakhstan’s assistance in Afghanistan reconstruction and cooperation of states of the region in straggle against people and drugs trafficking.
