The conference at Astana Opera

In the wake of the world premiere at Astana Opera, the Theatre hosted a scientific conference “Modern opera: tradition, innovation, and prospects.”
The conference assembled theaters directors, art critics, scientists and artists from 25 countries.
– Such fora are important for a young Astana Opera theater as they bring up sensitive and moot points and help learn the experience of countries with a high level of opera art. And it is important to instill a love of opera in the younger generation, who will develop this art, — said the theater director Tolegen Mukhamejanov, welcoming the audience.
Nicholas Payne- Director of the Opera Europa International Association (Great Britain), shared on the activities of this prestigious organization, which comprises 136 opera houses and opera festivals in 36 countries, and of which our new theater in the capital has become a member. The speaker noted that the opera is a most important form of art: the unifying power of music and its value system are as undeniable as a century ago. There is no ideal artistic and economic model of the theater at present, and the Opera Europa association appreciates the unique opportunities of each.
The editor of the Opera Actual magazine Fernando Sanz Riviera (Spain) and the president of the Como Theater (Italy) Barbara Minghetti opined that each theater has to seek out its own audience in different society layers, modern forms of work. It was a surprise to many in the audience to hear that the coexistence of Opera and Ballet under one «roof» is not a norm.
Roberto Giovanardi, Director of Emilia Romagna Theatre Association ( Italy) talked on XXI century ballet. The audience vehemently applauded to the emotional report of Professor of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory Nikolai Kuznetsov, Doctor of Arts , on the theoretical heritage of Fyodor Chaliapin and its value nowadays and on opera singers’ training. Immediately there appeared to be many volunteers to buy his book, “The skill of opera singer ( F.Shalyapin , Stanislavsky , MA Chekhov).”
Doctor of Arts, Professor of the Kazakh National University of Arts Umitzhan Zhumakova described the Kazakh opera in the world cultural space. And the head of the commercial representation of BBC World News in Eurasia Sergei Stanovkin stressed that with the advent of Astana Opera Theatre, Kazakhstan had gained yet another competitive advantage.
The conference also tried the formation of the repertoire, educational programs of the theaters, innovation projects and the promotion of cultural tourism.
At the end of the conference MoCs were signed between the Astana Opera and the Opera Europa Association, theaters of Russia, China, Italy, South Africa, Singapore, Bulgaria.
