Industry is gaining paceAccording to the global trend, the increase in consumption of raw materials activates geological exploration. Kazakhstan is no exception in this area. Annual increase of their production requires exploration works to replenish reserves.

In 2012, as well as in the past several years, exploration works were carried out in order to replenish reserves, in the first place non-ferrous metals. In the result of geological exploration of 60 thousand square kilometers, the expected resources of minerals were estimated. The growth of reserves in the study of individual objects was received mainly due to subsoil users, and in less degree due to budget funds. As a result of the state expertise in 2012, the growth of gold reserves totaled 61.7 tons, zinc – 1 million tons, lead – more than 323 thousand ton, copper – 348 thousand, coal – more than 1.5 million , uranium – about 2 tons.

The bulk of exploration program Ak-Bulak on the provision with groundwater reserves of 341 villages was carried out in 2012, as well as revaluation of reserves of 35 fields, and exploration of Koktaus and Akkol sites for the cities Akkol and Arkalyk. These works according to the technological requirements will be completed in late 2013.

In 2013 it is planned to start exploration for 216 villages, revaluate reserves of 30 fields with completion in 2014.

Within the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) for 2005-2011 we released 7 National Reports, which reflect results of annual reconciliation of data of mining companies and tax payments and related data on receipts to the state.

The Kazakh side proposed and the EITI board supported the initiative to hold one of the regular meetings of EITI in Astana within the forum «Kazenergy» in October of this year.

In 2013, it is planned to carry out regional geological exploration on a total area of about 100 thousand square kilometers, a large-scale search operations on 4 prospective sections, assessment works for solid minerals on 16 sites, for hydrocarbons – on one site.

In the medium term it is planned to explore territories near company towns, as well as to study methane in coal layers.

It is important to note that in 2012 the Government approved the Concept for the development of geological branch until 2030, and the National Company “Kazgeologiya” was transferred to the management of the Ministry of industry and new technologies. The Concept contains a comprehensive analysis of the industry and identifies key systemic problems and their causes.

The strategic goal of the industry until 2030 is creating an effective system of state geological survey, rational use and replenishment of mineral resources for the economic needs of the country at present and in the long term. The main instruments for the implementation of the Concept are 5-year branch programs for the development of mineral resources.
