Asian Championship as preparation for upcoming World Cup in Astana — IWF PresidentAstana Asian Championship being held in the country is like preparation for the upcoming World Championship in weightlifting, according to Tomas Ajan, President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

“The ongoing Asian Championship in Astana is a kind of arrangement for the upcoming World Cup in weightlifting. I see that the organization of this tournament is of high level. I would like to express my appreciation to Kazakhstan’s leadership for holding that remarkable event. In September of the next year we will be happy to come to Astana again and hold the World Cup, which will also involve Olympic qualification. I am sure that the following tournament will also be on an incredibly high level”, said T.Ayan.

“Weightlifters of Kazakhstan are known all over the world. Your country has won 4 gold medals in weightlifting at the Olympics in London and Ilya Ilyin from Kazakhstan has become a two-time Olympic champion. These results have made a big sensation for the whole world. The people of Kazakhstan are not only addicted to weight training, not only proud of their athletes but also understand the essence of sport and do everything for its development”, said the President of IWF.

The press conference was also attended by Muhammad Yousef Al-Mana, the president of the Asian Weightlifting Federation, Ali Moradi, the general secretary of the Asian Weightlifting Federation, Elsiyar Kanagatov, the Deputy Chairman of the Agency for Sports and Physical Education and Kairat Turlykhanov, the president of the Kazakhstan National Weightlifting Federation.

NOTE: From June 21 to 25 2013 the capital of Kazakhstan — Astana is hosting the 25th Asian Championship among women and the 44th Asian Championship among men in weightlifting which is attended by more than 800 athletes from 22 Asian countries.
