Construction of low powered Nuclear Plant in Kurchatov to start in 2010 – Kadyrzhanov

Kazakhstan and Japan have entered into an agreement on beginning of construction of an low powered experimental test Nuclear  Plant in Kurchatov town. Director General of the National Nuclear Center Kairat Kadyrzhanov has made it public at VII International “Nuclear and Radiation Physics” Conference in Almaty today.

Construction of the Nuclear Plant is expected to start in 2010 and be completed in 2018. The plant is scheduled to be raised to generating capacity in 2022. “All decisions were taken both by Kazakhstan and Japan. This is one of the points of the state program on development of atomic sector of Kazakhstan for 2010-2020. If it is adopted we will start building work in 2010”, Kadyrzhanov said.
