Egypt plans to import wheat from KazakhstanReda Agag, advisor to the supply and domestic trade minister, stated on Tuesday that Egypt was planning to resume imports of wheat from Kazakhstan, after a two-year hiatus in shipments.

He added that Egypt’s Supply and Domestic Trade Minister Bassam Ouda, was currently reviewing and discussing the issue with a delegation from Kazakhstan.

Egypt stopped importing wheat from Kazakhstan two years ago as a result of an increase in the price of transportation.

Agag said that wheat imported from Kazakhstan was currently being transported via airplanes and railways to ports in Russia and the Ukraine, raising its cost of import to levels that are uncompetitive.

Kazahkstani officials said that they would work to help facilitate Egyptian import of wheat from their country.
