6-8 April another session of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) will be held at the Chinese island Hainan.
Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev and other heads of state and government from more than ten countries, over a thousand members of political, business and scientific circles have been invited to the forthcoming forum.
BFA was established in 2001, and since that time 11 sessions have been held. This forum has attracted many Asian countries, became a powerful platform in the world arena, supporting tolerance and mutual understanding in seeking ways for development.
Over the last years, trade and investment ties between the Asian countries are becoming closer at bilateral and multilateral levels. Both the volume and scale of trade, financial cooperation and mutual investment between Asian states broke the historical record. Regional trade volume is more than 50% of total sales of the Asian countries, and the total GDP of Asian countries exceeds 30% of the world economy. Volume of Asia’s contribution to the growth of the world economies is about one-third. The largest number of emerging market economies is in Asia – the region with unlocked potential for development.
The BFA witnessed development of Asian countries, including China and Kazakhstan especially after the global financial crisis in 2008 where the measures to address challenges were discussed.
In the entire history numerous civilizations originated in Asia and had brilliant achievements. Today it is home to 45% of the world population. Asia is facing a new historical inception, where it offers both opportunities and challenges. The vast majority of Asian countries are developing nations. Lack of natural resources and environmental pollution are hampering their progress. Regional security is subjected to challenges.
In 2013, the global economy is still not encouraging, the global financial crisis has not been completely eliminated. During the large-scale changes, strengthening of cooperation and consultations on major international and regional issues among Asian countries has become more urgent. We have to stand together against such global issues as climate change, environmental protection, food and energy security, reformation of the international financial system. Trade liberalization, facilitation of investment, improvement of infrastructure and network of transport, communications and energy should be developed in Asian region. BFA is discussing interaction of economy and society of the Asian countries and their development goals.
As the host country, China is contributing to practical development of the BFA. Chinese state leaders attended all the previous session. This year, China elected a new leadership and the new chairman of China Xi Jinping will attend the upcoming BFA session “Asia in search of development for all: restructuring, responsibility and cooperation”. In its framework more than 50 events are to be held, including roundtables, interactive sessions on economic transformation, financial reform, debt risk, energy and food security, scientific innovation and cultural exchange. Views will be exchanged on reforms and innovations, cooperation and development, and relevant recommendations will be made to contribute to the development of Asia and the world.
President Nursultan Nazarbayev will also pay an official visit to China. At present both China and Kazakhstan are at a key point of development. We will unlock the potential of geography and economic complementarity, expand trade, energy and scientific cooperation, and implement new major strategic projects. I am convinced that the visit will strengthen the bilateral relations and give a new impetus to our cooperation in all areas.
