Kazakhstan's Lessons of Harmony to be screened at BerlinaleLessons of Harmony movie directed by young Kazakhstan filmmaker Emir Baigazin has made it into the official selection of the Berlin Film Festival and will be screened on February 14, Tengrinews.kz reports, referring to the KazakhFilm Studios press-service.

According to Anna Kachko, producer of the film, usually the organizers don’t run the official selection movies prior to their premiere in such high-level film festivals. “Any official selection movie is kept in secret. Private screening of Lessons of Harmony movie will be held on February 14, in the morning. Then the official press-conference dedicated to the movie will be held for all the journalists accredited at the film festival. Then the movie will be screened for the first time in Berlinale Palast in the afternoon. A red-carpet event will be arranged for the shooting crew of the movie,” Kachko said.

Films Distribution Company, one of the leading French film companies, is the international sales agent of Lessons of Harmony movie.

Lessons of Harmony movie tells the story of a 13-y.o. schoolboy named Aslan, who suffers indignity in front of his classmates and this starts a personality disorder in him. After that the boy starts to strain after cleanliness and perfection and becomes obsessed with controlling everything around him. But his relationships with the classmates and blackmailing keep getting worse.

In his debut full-length movie, Kazakhstan’s filmmaker Baigazin shows the opposition between an individual and the marginalization mechanisms in the society. He tells a story of a teenager who tosses a dangerous challenge to the world risking to destroy himself by doing this.

About 400 movies in total will be screened as part of the international Berlin Film Festival. 19 movies will fight for the main prizes. German filmmaker Andreas Dresen, American actor Tim Robbins and Iranian visual artist Shirin Neshat will judge the movies at the Berlinale. Chinese filmmaker and journalist Wong Kar-wai is the chairman of the jury. The winners of the Festival will be announced on February 16.
