Kazakhstan is actively developing a new industry – transport engineering.
The main transport company – JSC “NC” Kazakhstan Temir Joly “completed the year 2012 with high indexes and executed a plan on major industrial and financial activities. It was said at yesterday’s meeting in KTZ chaired by Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov, attended by the heads of the company’s subsidiaries, regional inspectors of train safety. According to the head of the company Askar Mamin, the turnover in rail freight transport of the country made 235.7 billion ton-kilometers in 2012, 5.4% more against 2011. The passenger traffic is 14% more than in 2011, while revenues increased by 15.7%. Net profit is 116.7 billion.
Capital investments made nearly half a trillion tenge, chiefly for boosting the production capacity of transport engineering, innovative projects, upgrading of freight and passenger rolling stock, rail track repairs and infrastructure development. As part of the SP AIID, in partnership with General Electric, Alstom, Talgo, Siemens, nine high-tech productions were built of high export potential.
With the Hewlett-Packard, a project of ACS “Highway” is being implemented and an innovations center for the development of new technologies in the rail industry is under creation. On the industrialization day, the head of state launched new railway projects: a large car casting production on “Vostokmashzavod” and the production of shunting locomotives in Shu.
As the Prime Minister emphasized, these and other new businesses will significantly improve the stock of freight and passenger cars, locomotives and electric locomotives. We also need to take care of maximum loading of the facilities and promote their products to foreign markets.
In December, the second railway crossing Altynkol – Khorgos opened, the construction of new lines was started, speed routes Aktobe – Almaty and Astana – Petropavlovsk are running. All this is in execution of the program for the railway industry development in 2010-2014.
– In the “Kazakhstan-2050” Strategy the President noted the need for a modern transport and logistics system, including transport and logistics facilities outside Kazakhstan. Therefore, we are working out a national program for the development of infrastructure, and the program “Global Infrastructure Integration”, – said S. Akhmetov. – It is necessary to continue development and modernization of rail transport and transport engineering. This year establishment of the National Railway freight carrier is to be finalized and of the company providing infrastructure services. Subsidizing of passenger traffic and infrastructure services need be addressed as well.
The PPP opportunities could be tapped for it. The KTZ could implement promising projects on its own or together with private investors, the state’s parity share is possible, or pension funds might be tapped for the implementation of infrastructure projects, said the PM.
It is also important to develop a network of border transport and logistics centers, of which the most important are the “Eastern Gate” Khorgos / Dostyk “Western Gate” – Aktau port.
– It all takes precise and coordinated work with our partners in the full range of transportation and logistics services, and weighing of the issues that may arise in the joint work with the railways of Russia and Belarus in the frames of CU and CES – S. Akhmetov said summing up the meeting. – CES allows Kazakhstan to develop the transport and export potential. But in the emerging CES the company and the national economy at large are likely to face challenges, we have to be ready for them. Our country is integrated into the world economy, open to free trade and investment. Our only way is global development of our economy, further deepening of integration, he cited the President as saying.
