Turning a new page of relations recordIn Akorda yesterday ambassadors of six states presented their credentials to President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The credentials were presented by the ambassadors of: Norway – Ole Johan Bjornoy, Egypt – Nabil Ibrahim Salama Farhan, Uzbekistan – Alisher Salakhitdinov, Israel – Eliyahu Tasman, Indonesia – Foster Gultom, and Serbia – Vladimir Mirkovic.

Addressing the diplomats, the President congratulated them on assuming their diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan and wished them success in working towards the development of all-round mutually beneficial cooperation.

– Welcome to our capital – beautiful Astana, which has become one of the recognizable cities in the world, and was recently elected by the International Exhibitions Bureau in Paris to host EXPO- 2017. This will certainly be a priceless gift for its 20th birthday, – said Nursultan Nazarbayev.

He stressed that in the years of independence, Kazakhstan has established diplomatic relations with 146 states, more than three thousand international treaties were signed.

Kazakhstan is interested in further development of cooperation with Norway. We view Norway as a major Scandinavian trade and economic partner. This March the diplomatic mission in Oslo was transformed into an embassy. This step will hopefully boost our bilateral relations.

Development of bilateral relations with the Middle East and North Africa, undergoing complex political processes are prioritized in our foreign policy.

– Kazakhstan will develop comprehensive ties with Egypt, which is a key partner in the region. We appreciate our close cooperation in international fora and Egypt’s part in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, as well as in the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, – said Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The Republic of Uzbekistan, he went on, is a good neighbor, strategic partner and reliable ally of our country.

– The last year’s official visit of President Islam Karimov to Kazakhstan was very fruitful. We have reached important agreements on bilateral cooperation and coordinated positions on global and regional issues. The signed documents will stimulate development of the Kazakh-Uzbek strategic partnership, – he believes.

As for relations with Israel: geographically, the two countries are far apart, but mutual desire to firm up the relations and a high-level political dialogue bring our states closer together. We are concerned over the recent developments in the region, and hope the situation will soon settle down peacefully, – he said.

Indonesia is also viewed as a most important partner to Kazakhstan in South-East Asia.

– During my visit to Jakarta this year, a number of agreements were reached to expand bilateral cooperation. This year, Kazakhstan Embassy opened in Indonesia. We appreciate our cooperation in multilateral forums, particularly in the format of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Indonesia is an active member and leader of ASEAN. We hope that it will support Kazakhstan’s aspiration to become a member of the ASEAN Regional Forum on security, – said Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The President stressed our country’s interest in further development of mutually beneficial cooperation with Serbia and congratulated the country on being appointed to chair the 67th session of the UN General Assembly and on receiving the candidate status for membership in the European Union. It is important to continue to work together to expand trade and economic relations. The established Serbian-Kazakhstan intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation will contribute to it.

During the briefing, the newly appointed Ambassadors congratulated the people of Kazakhstan on being elected to host EXPO-2017 in Astana. It will be a powerful impetus for further economic development of Kazakhstan.

Norwegian Ambassador O. J. Bjornoy said the development of mutually beneficial economic, trade and energy cooperation between the two countries has good dynamics. In Kazakhstan Norwegian seafood is valued, in Norway- Kazakhstan’s grain products. We have shared views on the issues of global disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. Recently, the two countries held a series of international events on this important subject. This is further evidence of a wide and effective cooperation between the two states – the diplomat said.

The Egyptian ambassador Nabil Ibrahim Salama Farhan said his country had always supported Kazakhstan’s initiatives.

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan A. Salakhitdinov described the Kazakh-Uzbek relations as good-neighborly and strategic, praising N.Nazarbayev’s statesmanship. -We are interested in further strengthening of cooperation through dialogue, common goals and the priority of national interests.

Israeli Ambassador E. Tasman pledged to make every effort towards enhancing cooperation in agriculture, medicine and high technology.

The Indonesian diplomat F. Gultom noted the positive dynamics of bilateral relations and a fruitful cooperation in trade and industry. His country is interested in building cooperation in tourism, education and military-technical area.

V. Mirkovic called the opening of Serbian Embassy in Kazakhstan a qualitatively new step in the development of friendly relations.

In conclusion, Nursultan Nazarbayev wished the newly appointed ambassadors success in their work in Astana, expressing hope they will make every effort for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation.
