20 years of successful partnershipNext week President Nursultan Nazarbayev is visiting the Russian Federation.

This year Kazakhstan and Russia mark 20th year of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance and the establishment of diplomatic relations. High dynamics of growth is observed in all areas of the strategic partnership, in political, trade, economic and cultural-humanitarian areas.

Russia is the largest trade partner of Kazakhstan. The share of bilateral trade is about 20% of the total foreign trade of our country. Turnover between Kazakhstan and Russia reached a historic level: in 2011 it was nearly 24 billion dollars. In the new stage of relations, it is planned to reach $ 40 billion.

This is an achievable goal, taking into account the synergic effect, coming from a close cooperation of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus in the frames of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space. And this is just the beginning. The states of the “Troika” are planning to create the Eurasian Economic Union, which is becoming real, contrary to the views of skeptics.

The growth rate of trade between the CU states is about 30% per year. After removing of administrative barriers by establishment of a single economic space, the countries increased their GDPs by a few percent. The growth of bilateral trade is ahead of foreign trade, the specialists say.

Kazakhstan and Russia cooperate in transportation of Kazakh hydrocarbons to world markets through Russian pipelines, and modernize oil and gas productions. Special attention is paid to development of cooperation in energy, based on the joint action plan for formation of a common market in this segment of economic relations. Cooperation in space development is growing too.

Interregional Cooperation Forums contribute to cooperative links. For example, the industrial cooperation Forum held this year in Pavlodar allowed to sign more than 20 contracts worth about $ 2 billion. One of the largest projects is construction of a joint venture for auto production in East Kazakhstan oblast.

The next forum will be held in Yekaterinburg in 2013.

The forthcoming meeting of the Presidents in Moscow is to be held in the frames of the 20th year of bilateral relations. In honor of this event Moscow will welcome popular bands and artists of Russia and Kazakhstan.
