Inauguration Of Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan Railway End Of The Year
BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug 29 (Bernama) – The Gorgan-Incheh Borun railway will be inaugurated by the end of 2012, an official with the National Iranian Railways said.
Abbas Nazari said the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran 904-km railway will run 700 km in Turkmenistan, 120 km in Kazakhstan and 94 km in Iran, TREND news agency reported.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov said in Ashgabat in May that construction on the railway was under way at a rapid pace.
“The transcontinental railway will be a bridge connecting Asia to Europe. It will provide European and Asian countries access to Central Asia and the Gulf by the shortest and economically advantageous route,” he said.
Traffic volume is projected to reach 10 million tonnes per year.
The new railway will play a vital role in creating new infrastructure in the desert regions near the Caspian Sea and northern territories from Bereket to the border with Kazakhstan.
