Switzerland, Kazakhstan eye investments into railway industryThe Kazakh-Swiss business forum on railway engineering took place on Tuesday (July 10) in Astana.

The event was organized by Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Kazakhstan, National Agency for Export and Investments Kaznex Invest, JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy in association with the Swiss Embassy in Astana, Kazinform has learnt from the Ministry’s press service.

The delegation of the Swiss railway enterprises came to Kazakhstan on the invitation of the Ministry and took part in the forum. The business delegation was headed by Daniel Steiner, President of the Swissrail Industry Association.

The Swiss railway industry was represented by Matter AG, MATISA Material Industriel S.A., ABB Schweiz AG, GIMOTA AG, Prang+Partner AG and other companies.

The business forum is to attract direct Swiss investments and transfer of technologies into railway engineering and transport industry of Kazakhstan.

Vice Minister of Industry and New Technologies Nurlan Sauranbayev of Kazakhstan was the first to greet the guests from Switzerland at the forum. According to him, Kazakhstan’s railway industry is a perspective market for foreign investors.

N. Sauranbayev noted Kazakhstan was interested in financial, technological and intellectual investments from Switzerland. The Switzerland-Kazakhstan Association was opened in 2011 in Bern and the Swiss-Kazakh Chamber of Commerce – in 2010 in Luzern in order to attract Swiss companies to Kazakhstan.

In addition, the Kazakh-Swiss roundtable on engineering and transport is believed to be held on Thursday (July 12) at Rixos Almaty Hotel in Almaty. The roundtable will focus on the opportunity of attracting direct Swiss investments into development of Almaty transport system and its metropolitan line, in particular.

The sales turnover between Kazakhstan and Switzerland made USD 5.1 billion in 2011.
